Description
Scilla peruviana is a striking Mediterranean bulb that produces large, dome-shaped clusters of starry violet-blue flowers in late spring to early summer. Each flower head can carry up to 100 blossoms, rising above strap-like, glossy green leaves that form a neat rosette at the base. Despite its name, this plant is not from Peru but is native to the western Mediterranean region, especially Portugal and Spain.
It is a hardy, low-maintenance perennial that thrives in well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Scilla peruviana is excellent for garden borders, rock gardens, and containers, where its bold, exotic blooms make a spectacular display. Once established, it naturalizes well and returns year after year with minimal care.
